Requirements - Although there is no fee for participation, those wishing to participate in the Challenge must complete and submit the Challenge Form (found here) by January 5th, 2019. Riders are also required to accept the terms of the Janesville Velo Club Waiver and Release of Liability.
Participants must ride at least one day in January and at least one day in February to remain in the Challenge.
The Challenge - Each rider is challenged to ride as many days and as many miles as they can during the challenge period. All days and miles logged must be outdoors while riding a bicycle within a 50-mile radius of Michael’s Cycles (unless approved by the Challenge Organizer). At the end of the challenge period, participants will receive points that correlate to their final place in each category (“Days” and “Miles”).
King Fool - The points that each participant receives for each category will be added together to determine the participant’s “Total Points”. The participant who has the most “Total Points” is the challenge's King Fool.
Prize - The King Fool will win only the respect of the other participants.
Days - Participants must track the number of days ridden during the challenge period in a log. Participants will be given credit for riding 1 day whenever the participant rides at least five miles within a 24-hour period. Participants can only receive credit for 1 “day” during a 24-hour period. The 24-hour period starts at 12:00 midnight* and ends 24-hours later at 12:00 midnight. Participants must track their days in this manner.
Miles - Participants must track the number of miles ridden every day during the challenge period in a log. Participants should track their miles to the nearest 1/10th mile ridden each day.
Excel - A user friendly log has been created in MS Excel to help participants track miles, days, and weekly totals ridden during the Frozen Fools Challenge. Since the Excel log automatically calculates weekly totals, using it makes it easy for participants to submit their information each week as required.
No Excel - If you don't have MS Excel on your computer, you can click on the Adobe icon (you must have a .pdf reader installed), print the log, and then track your miles manually. You do still know how to use a calculator, don't you?
Points will be awarded for each category (“Miles” and “Days”) to each participant. The participant who has ridden the most “miles” will receive the most points for the “miles” category. Also, the participant who has ridden the most “days” will receive the most points for the “days” category. Points will be awarded in each category as follows:
|1st place = 10 points||6th place = 5 pts.|
|2nd place = 9 pts.||7th place = 4 pts.|
|3rd place = 8 pts.||8th place = 3 pts.|
|4th place = 7 pts.||9th place = 2 pts.|
|5th place = 6 pts.||10th place = 1 pt.|
Tie Breakers & Scores
The points system used may create situations when two (or more) participants have the same number of points (a tie). In cases when two (or more) participants have equal points, the participants’ “scores” will be used as the tie-breaker.
To determine each participant's "Score", the number of "Days" each participant has ridden is divided by the "Average Days Ridden" for the entire group of Fools to get a "Day Score" for each participant. Also, the number of “Miles” each participant has ridden is divided by the "Average Miles Ridden" by everyone to get a "Mile Score" for each participant. Each participant’s "Day Score" and "Mile Score" are then added together to get a total "Score" for every participant.
Disclaimer (thinking about cheating?)
Why? There are no prizes to win. Obviously, you’ll only be cheating yourself. Unfortunately, circumstances that were not foreseen may occur. The Challenge Organizer reserves the right to make rule adjustments when necessary. Rulings made by the Challenge Organizer are final. Any participant found to be competing outside the spirit of this challenge will be disqualified.
If you would like to participate in the challenge or donate to our cause, please submit the Frozen Fools Challenge form (found at the top of this page in the "Requirements" paragraph).
